Trunk or Treat

It's that time of year again! Fall is upon us and the holidays are coming on quickly. Candy and costumes fill the aisles in the stores and children can't wait to go Trick-or-Treating! Here at MVBC our youth will be hosting a Trunk-or-Treat on Sunday the 31st from 4:00-6:o0 p.m. on our church campus! Come with your costume, your bag, and your sweet tooth! You won't be disappointed!

Resurrection Eggs

KidStuf was a little different yesterday - each family made their own set of Resurrection Eggs. As we go through this week leading up to Easter it's important to remember the significance of all Jesus did during this week.

Easter is a lot more than egg hunts and fancy clothes and candy (although, I personally LOVE the candy). Remember this week that Jesus gave himself to die on the cross in order to pay for our sins and provide a way for us to be reconciled with God. But, it doesn't end there, on Easter morning Jesus rose from the dead and went back to heaven to be with His Father.

Circle of Friends

Circle of Friends met tonight. We had snacks (of course!), crafts and watched Toy Story - which is, apparently, a huge favorite. One young man quoted the entire movie word for word - he said it was his favorite movie ever and he was not joking!

As always, it is such a blessing to be able to spend a few moments loving on these boys and girls. Here are a few photos from our craft time...

Honor Awards

What a fun month it has been at KidStuf. We've studied Honor this month and talked about letting others know you see how valuable they are. Yesterday, we honored a lot of people at the first ever KidStuf Honor Awards.

I wanted to take a moment to say that the KidStuf staff, actors, singers, dancers, AV team, etc. all did an amazing job this past Sunday. We were missing several key players on our "KidStuf Team" and everyone did a fantastic job of filling in and doing what needed to be done. Special thanks to our guest host, Josh, for gracing the KidStuf stage for the first time. He may not know it, but we hope to see more of him this year!

Mickey and Candyce - you are in our prayers while you are in China and we can't wait to meet Anna!

Candice and David - we are all praying for you and your family. We are so thankful for the good reports you have received already and are looking forward to seeing what God has planned.

Christmas Program...AMAZING!!

Last night was our Children's Christmas Program and our children were nothing short of spectacular!! They all did such an amazing job reminding us of the true importance of Christmas and THE Gift that God gave to us - His Son, our Savior.

Our 3 & 4 year olds sang beautifully and REALLY enjoyed the motions to their songs. They also dressed up as Mary, Joseph, angels and wise men to act out the manger scene. They were adorable. The K - 5th graders presented the musical Starry Night, Noisy Night featuring our 5th graders as the animals in the stable. They did an amazing job (I'm sure thanks to many parents) learning their parts on very short notice and were very eager to do whatever was asked of them...including wearing those fabulous costumes!!

We are also very proud of Zachary and Cade who volunteered to sing "What Child Is This". They worked so hard to learn their song and did a great job singing. I hope we will get the treat of hearing them sing again and again!!

I do want to say a very special thank you to David and Candice Sneed for writting/directing/everything. And, thanks to all our moms who helped us get the kiddos fed and lined up and taken care of yesterday afternoon. Here are a few photos...

Attention all Parents: I have posted a video to the right of this page of our Children's Christmas Program practice. Just a little snippet of what you'll see on December 13 at 6:00 pm.

Practice Schedule:

5th graders: practice Wednesday, Dec. 9, from 5:00 - 6:00 pm

K - 5th graders: arrive at church on Sunday, Dec. 13, at 4:00 pm

3 - 4 year olds: arrive at church on Sunday, Dec. 13, at 5:00 pm

We will feed all children pizza at 5:30 on Sunday (don't want them to starve before they perform!). All children should dress in jeans and a "Christmasy" shirt - can be a red shirt, green shirt, Christmas sweater, etc.

Santa Claus is Coming to Town...

Ok, maybe not, but you might think so when you arrive to MVBC on Sunday morning. Christmas decorations are up and I do mean UP!! Christmas spirit is not lacking in the children's department either. Our first practice for our Christmas program last week was phenomenal! The kids were great and I am so excited to see the program on December 13.

Don't miss this Sunday - there is a lot going on. In Big Church, parents will be hearing about the second week of Advent. In Sunday School, children ages 3 years through 5th grade will be practicing for the Christmas Program. And you DEFINITELY don't want to miss KidStuf. With only 3 KidStuf shows left in 2009 they are sure to be FUNtastic.

I'll let you in on a little KidStuf secret - December's virtue is Compassion and we will be showing a new video testimony each week about how Compassion has impacted the lives of people in our church. These videos are a MUST SEE!!!

Costuming at Circle of Friends

Circle of Friends met tonight for the last time this month. David and Candice Sneed have been helping this month to teach the kids about theater/drama. The first week we talked about puppets and all the kids made sock puppets. The second week we talked about masks and all the kids made emotion masks. This week we talked about costumes. It was a blast! All the kids really got into it and had a lot of fun. They all were able to dress up as clowns at the end.

Circle of Friends is one of my favorite ministries at MVBC. While it may be challenging at times, it is truly a blessing to me. It is a wonderful opportunity to show love and acceptance and warmth to children that probably don't get that kind of response from most people they meet. Yet, the love and friendship that they give back is by far a greater gift.

Denise Lindsey is our fearless leader and there are many, many volunteers that help out each week...including many children...and without them this ministry wouldn't be possible. THANK YOU to everyone that helped out this month. Here are a few pictures from tonight and there is a video to the right that you simply must see...

In KidStuf today we introduced a new virtue for the month of October: Individuality = discovering who YOU were meant to be so YOU can make a difference. We also met Gordo's new friend Lizzy who learned a valuable lesson about doing what's right. Here are a few photos...

Wisdom About Squirrels

In KidStuf yesterday we learned that squirrels may be cute but they are still wild animals...and they will bite your hand off. Hopefully we also learned that Wisdom means knowing what you're supposed to do AND doing it. Our Hosts and Actors did an amazing job teaching these lessons in a fun and memorable way! Birthdays Galore

October is the month for Birthdays at MVBC! If you were at KidStuf on Sunday you heard Mickey announce that we are hosting a birthday party for the kids at the Community Kitchen on October 10. I know October 10 sounds far away, but it's really only about 2 1/2 weeks from now. (Where has September gone?) We are asking families in our church to sponsor these children for $25 each. The plan is to purchase toiletry items to give them as gifts. Plus, the party will be complete with games, fun and CAKE. If you would like to sponsor a child, please talk to myself or Dawn Morrow this coming Sunday.

If you aren't able to sponsor a child but would still like to help, I have good news for you. You can help! We need pumpkins. It being fall, every child will get a pumpkin (or two). You can never have too many pumpkins! We would like every child at MVBC to bring a pumpkin with them to KidStuf this Sunday to give to the kids at the Community Kitchen.

Want to be more hands on? I have good news for you too. You can! We'd love to have many of our church families and CHILDREN go to the birthday party just spend time with the children there, to love them and serve them. If you'd like to help in this way, please talk to Dawn on Sunday.

On a bit of a different topic - we are celebrating another very special birthday in October. Darvinson, the boy that our children's Sunday School classes sponsor through Compassion International, has a birthday in October. We collect $38 every month from children's Sunday School offerings in order to provide medical help, education, and most importantly the gospel to Darvinson through the ministry of Compassion. On his birthday, we'd like to do a little something extra.

How can you be a part of this? I'm so glad you asked! Every Sunday an offering is collected during the Children's Sunday School time (right after Prove It Kids). If you'd like to give toward Darvinson's birthday present, send the money with your child to Sunday School or you may give the money to me at KidStuf.

Today was our Back to School Celebration at Partyville! Thanks to everyone who came. From the looks of the red faces all had fun.

Wet Paint

If you've ever painted a room in your house then you know what a difference a fresh coat of paint can make. You can completely change the look and feel of an entire room with just a few brush strokes.

Well, that's what we've done to the Children's Sunday School and Nursery rooms in the Ministry Center. Only, in this case, it was more like a few MILLION brush strokes (thank you Kyle!!). All seven - that's SEVEN - classrooms have had a "face lift" this week. Our Children's Sunday School rooms no longer look like a dirty cafeteria. They now look like a place children actually belong!

This Sunday, please take a moment to poke your head into at least a few of the rooms, if not all. I know you'll be as excited about the improvements as I am and your children will LOVE having a place that feels like their own (and not like a storage room or a dirty cafeteria).

A special "Thank You" to all the volunteers who helped paint during our work weekend. And, many, many, many, many thanks to Kyle, who has tirelessly worked all week painting these rooms.

Back to School Celebration

It's that time - Back to School!!

To Celebrate (because I know all kids are super excited about going back), we are going to enjoy some playtime at the Partyville store on Hixson Pike.

When: August 22, 1:00 - 3:00

Who: All children going Back to School (K - 5 grades)

Cost: FREE - but you MUST sign up before August 16

There will be a sign up sheet in the foyer on Sunday. Hope everyone can come!

Kids need to eat lunch before they come or there will be a concession stand at Partyville. Socks must be worn to play.

Getting Ready

The Summer's activities are winding down and it's time to start preparing for the fall. KidStuf will be starting on August 16. I'm excited about several new opportunities KidStuf will bring to our children this fall. Watch for more info to come soon!

As part of "Getting Ready" we will be painting all Nursery and Sunday School rooms in the downstairs of the Ministry Center. That's 7 large rooms. Which means I need your help.

Friday, July 31, and Saturday, August 1, are Children's Ministry Work Days. Each day will be divided into 2 hour shifts. If you can work more than one shift - fantastic! But, if everyone can pitch in and work at least one shift we should be able to complete all painting in one weekend. The schedule will be as follows:

Friday, July 31:

10:00 am - 12:00 noon - Shift 1

12:00 - 1:00 - Break

1:00 - 3:00 - Shift 2

3:00 - 5:00 - Shift 3

5:00 - 6:00 - Break

6:00 - 8:00 - Shift 4

Saturday, August 1:

10:00 - 12:00 - Shift 5 (Note to Ladies: There is a coupon class during this time. However, the men can still paint while we're "couponing".)

12:00 - 1:00 - Break

1:00 - 3:00 - Shift 6

3:00 - 5:00 - Shift 7

5:00 - 6:00 - Break

6:00 - 8:00 - Shift 8

My goal is to paint one room per shift. Which means, I would need at least 3 volunteers per shift. Please let me know which shift(s) you would like to work. You can email me at childrensministrymvbc@comcast.net or leave a message with the church office at 842-1911.

If you are not able to help with the painting but would still like to contribute to the painting and furnishing of our children's Sunday School rooms, you can donate money to help purchase the tables, chairs, rugs, paint, etc. Designate monies to the Children's Ministry Remodeling Fund and put it in Sunday's offering.

Parent's Day Out - Now Enrolling

School begins in just a few weeks and we are now enrolling for our PDO program this fall! Children can attend on Monday or Wednesday or both, from 9:30 - 2:00. Take some much needed Mommy or Daddy time while your child develops friendships, sings and hears about Christ, and learns all the necessary skills he will need for Kindergarten! If your child is age 6 months to 5 years and you would like to enroll them in our PDO program at MVBC, please click the Parent's Day Out link in the upper left corner for more information or to download a registration form.

Moving on...

It seems like Camp All Star has barely finished and we're already on to the next activity. It's been a busy summer, but a great one!

Cumberland Springs Bible Camp is just around the corner. Our children (ages 6 - 12) will attend CSBC Day camp during the week of July 13. If you have not registered your child, it's not too late. You can pick up a brochure/registration form in the foyer of the Commons.

If your child is planning to attend, please make sure I know so that I can prepare for transportation.

Last Week of CAS

Camp All Star is winding down for the summer. I have a tremendous amount of respect and appreciation for all of our Counselors. After 4 weeks of well over 100 children, I'm amazed that they have not lost their minds. They have all done a fantastic job!

Camp has been great this summer! I personally have loved being a part of CAS and am looking forward to the years of Camp to come. This year 240 different children had the opportunity to participate in Camp. That means 240 children roamed the halls, the gym, and the fields of the MVBC campus. And, the gospel was shared daily with all 240 of them!

Thank you to all who played a part in making sure CAS ran smoothly - from counselors to tech people to trash monitors to canteen runners and pizza servers and koolaid makers and baby sitters and drivers and everyone else - we couldn't have done this with out you!

Chaos Plus Mosquito Nets

Week 2 is coming to an end. We had 130 Campers this week. To say it was chaotic is an understatement. We had to call in reinforcements first thing Monday morning. Our Counselors are AMAZING. They have all jumped right in and done what needed to be done. They were not afraid of the massive number of children running all over the place.

The Campers had a blast. Thursday we brought in the water slides and dunk tank. The rain actually came at a good time, it cooled everything off right before we went out to play.

This summer, Camp All Star, is working to raise money to purchase mosquito nets for children in Africa through Compassion. Our Campers have learned about malaria prevention and about how vital the mosquito nets are to the survival of children in Africa. Our goal is to raise enough money to purchase 100 nets. Camp All Star is underway. This week has been exciting! The support staff, counselors and coaches are AMAZING! We could not do this without their willingness and servants attitudes.

Summer Time

School's out, vacations are starting, pools are opening...summer is here!

With Summer come a few changes to the Children's Program at MVBC. For one, we have several camps happening this summer. Camp All Star begins next week (click here for more info). Cumberland Springs Bible Camp is in July. And, we are working on a TOP SECRET VBS project that will offer a ministry/outreach opportunity for our kids. Watch for more info to come soon.

Our Sunday morning activities will be changing a bit as well. The last KidStuf is this Sunday, May 31. KidStuf will take a break for the summer and then resume in August when school starts back. Sunday School will be AFTER the morning service. So, kids will stay in the service with their parents and then go to Sunday School during the time that we would normally have KidStuf.

Camp All Star - June 2009

We are gearing up for Camp All Star! I'm excited to be a part of Camp for the first time this summer. We are preparing some EXCITING things for camp this year!! I don't want to give too much away, but keep an eye out for the Camp promo video coming soon - it's going to be GREAT!

Circle of Friends - April

Circle of Friends is a kids club for children with disabilities. This month we have held our first few meetings. We have had 7 kids come each week and it has been a blast! This month's theme is crafting. The first week we decorated easter eggs - a big hit.

Another big hit - the parachute...

Week 2 we made playdough! A few of the kids were a bit apprehensive about getting their hands dirty but they eventually dove in.

What's in store for this week? Well, you'll have to wait and see, but I guarantee it will be fun and memorable!!

Our last meeting for April will be Monday the 27th. We will meet again in June - every Monday night from 6:00 - 7:30.
